TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. (The Republic) – An 11-year-old boy from Taylorsville was taken to juvenile detention on Friday after he decided to take his mother’s car for a drive.

24-Hour News 8’s news partners at The Republic report the boy didn’t feel like taking the bus to school so he tried to drive his mom’s car. His trip ended when he crashed the car near Taylorsville Elementary School.

Officials say the child was detained on a preliminary complaint of reckless driving and is awaiting a court hearing.
