One killed in Fountain County plane crash

FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person was killed when a plane crashed in Fountain County Saturday afternoon, Indiana State Police confirm.

Police say around 1:30 p.m., ISP and the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department were advised of a plane crash on Covered Bridge Road, about three miles south of Attica.

Preliminary information from police is that what appears to be an Ultra-Light aircraft crashed near the Rob Roy Covered Bridge.

Officials say 72-year-old Charles H. Coffing, from Covington, Ind., was killed in the crash.

Police say Coffing was flying the aircraft when for an unknown reason, the plane nosedived into the ground.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified.
