FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Officials say Fort Wayne firefighters found a 4-year-old boy as he was hiding inside his family’s burning house.

City Fire Department Battalion Chief Dennis Maxwell says the boy’s mother told firefighters she thought he was still inside the two-story house when they arrived Sunday evening. Maxwell says crews spotted the boy hiding inside an entertainment center cabinet on the first floor and brought him outside.

The Journal Gazette and WOWO Radio report the boy and woman were treated for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to a upstairs bedroom of the house on the city’s southeast side and was put out in about 10 minutes.
