Thousands attend Indians’ Baseball in Education program

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -Thousands of elementary school students went to Victory Field on Monday for the Baseball in Education program.

The program gives kids a chance to see how all the school work they do can play out in real-life. It supplies year-long curriculum ideas to schools to help teach students how English, math, science, writing and history can all be applied to the real world, especially baseball.

“We use this event all year as an incentive for attendance and ISTEP, for good citizenship and good grades. We bring 30 plus elementary schools and it’s just the highlight of the year for us,” Ann Hansen, with Indianapolis Public Schools Drug and Character Education, said.

IPS alone brought about 2,500 students to Victory Field on Monday. The kids even got an in-game educational workbook to fill out throughout the day.
