INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – School is almost out for the summer and hundreds of teens will soon be looking for jobs. City leaders are trying to help.
The Department of Public Safety announced Tuesday morning it is organizing a 5K fun run/walk to help create summer jobs. The event will start and finish in front of City Market on June 7th at 9 a.m.
The event is free for anyone who wishes to participate, but a donation the day of the event would be greatly appreciated. Director of Public Safety, Troy Riggs, “The board of the DPS foundation has said that every dollar that comes in will go to a summer jobs program. That means if you give $20, that money is going to go to some young person…working in this community to provide them some type of revenue.”
With the help of partnerships and sponsors, the group has already raised more than $21 thousand.
The Indy Public Safety Foundation will immediately begin accepting youth summer job creation proposals from D-P-S-endorsed service providers.
