INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Three Department of Public Works employees at the Belmont location are accused of stealing vehicle parts for money.

David Here, Terry Lee and Edward Lawson are charged with one count of theft and one count of official misconduct. All three suspects are accused of stealing scrap metal during their shift at DPW then selling the material.

The investigation began in August, after supervisors at the plant became suspicious of stolen metal during a three year span.

Investigators used an online database to help them solve the crime. Transactions made at recycling facilities, pawn shops, scrap metal processors, and online listings like eBay were recorded in a database with a photo of the seller. Police believe the suspects stole copper, brake parts along with other scraps from the facility.

Herre, Lee, and Lawson are awaiting an initial hearing. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
