INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Public Schools students shine the light on cultures of all kinds.

IPS held their 28th Celebration of Diversity. 40 schools and community organizations gathered in Lafayette Square Mall.

Students and teachers displayed how they incorporate different cultures in the classroom. “We teach teachers to be sure to infuse cultural components into their traditional subject areas and we’re talking about every subject area so that students can see themselves mirrored in the instructional strategy and know how to apply this to their lives,” said Patricia Payne, Multicultural Education Director, IPS.

Exhibits and bulletin boards helped show how cultural improves students academic achievement. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
