FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – May 17, 2014 was named Madyn Lanum Day in Frankfort. Madyn and her grandmother were attacked by a man with a knife outside the city’s library in November.

Madyn lost sight in one of her eyes because of it. On Saturday, community members and Clinton County officials came together for a benefit for Madyn.

County Commissioners and Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes declared the day Madyn Lanum Day, and she was given the key to the city.

Event organizer Reggie Morgan said the community wants to turn a tragic event into a positive one for Madyn and her family.

“I think it’s overwhelming,” Morgan said. “As I went out to get sponsors and donators I didn’t have one person reject.”

The day included a parade led by Madyn, and a motorcycle ride. Proceeds from the event will go toward Madyn’s medical bills. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
