MONROE COUNTY, Ind.(WISH) – The beaches of Monroe Lake won’t be open this Memorial Day weekend because of high water.

The Department of Natural Resources said Monday that recent rains and river levels downstream have forced the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to restrict the outflow at the dam, which has resulted in high water at Monroe Lake.

Officials say the conditions won’t change before Memorial Day weekend. Monroe Lake beaches, which are at Fairfax and Paynetown state recreation areas, will remain closed.

All boat ramps, officials say, are currently still open at the lake.
