Man injured at southern Indiana coal mine

OAKTOWN, Ind. (WTHI) – One man was injured at a coal mine Monday morning in Southern Indiana.

It happened at Black Panther Mining in Oaktown, which is in Knox County.

Fire Chief Steve Hobbs said a coal miner somehow became trapped beneath underground mining equipment. Other coal miners had to cut that man out. They then took him to the surface.

First responders treated him on the scene and took him by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital. He suffered serious injuries.

Officials are not releasing his name at this time. No other injuries were reported, and the mine was in good condition mid-morning on Monday.
