SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (Shelbyville News) – Investigators in Shelby County say the fire that destroyed the historic grandstands at the fairgrounds remains a mystery, two years later.

The wooden grandstands had been at the Shelby County Fairgrounds for 133 years before they burned to the ground on May 19, 2012.

An investigation was launched after the fire, however officials say they haven’t gotten any closer to solving the arson, 24-Hour News 8’s news partners at the Shelbyville News report.

Authorities say they’re still looking for the arsonist.

A new grandstand is currently being built and is expected to be completed by mid to late June. The fair will run from June 29-July 5 this year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
