BATESVILLE, Ind (WISH) – The Gibson Theater got good news about keeping their theater up and running.

An online rally to raise funds to save the town’s 93-year-old theater worked.

The theater needed to raise $15,000 by next Monday to make the switch from film to digital technology. Many people in the town didn’t think it could happen, but the money raised exceeded the theaters original goal.

The 93-year-old theater used film to play one movie at a time. Without digital technology, it became difficult to get current movies to play at the theater because companies no longer want to ship the heavy, outdated equipment.

The Kickstarter fundraising site helped the theater raise more than $15,000 online. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
