ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) — Thunderstorms packing hail and gusty winds have swept across central and southern Indiana but caused limited damage.

The National Weather Service reported hail measuring as much as 1 inch in diameter fell in Frankfort, Indianapolis and Jeffersonville on Wednesday. It says an emergency manager in Indianapolis estimated a wind gust at 60 mph.

The storm downed some tree branches and power lines. Indianapolis Power & Light Co. reported more than 6,000 customers had outages at one point.

Heavy rains caused flooding on some streets in the Indianapolis area but no major damage was reported.

Earlier, a line of thunderstorms that moved across northern Indiana early Wednesday caused some hail damage in Steuben County and scattered power outages, with the largest concentration in Elkhart County. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
