SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana magistrate has ordered three juveniles charged in connection with the shooting death of a 2-year-old South Bend boy be tried as adults.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office says 17-year-old Malcolm Buchanon, 15-year-old Cedric Washington Jr. and 15-year-old Tyre Bradbury cases were waived into Superior Court on Friday. Buchanon and Washington are charged with assisting a criminal and Bradbury with aiding in murder.

Authorities say 2-year-old John Swoveland Jr. was struck April 9 by a stray bullet from a gunfight between rival gangs blocks away.

Bradbury was ordered held without bond. Buchanon was ordered held on $5,000 bond, while bond was set at $10,000 for Washington, who also has a $1,000 bond on an unrelated charge.

Five others also are charged in the shooting.
