INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a man died and an 18-year-old was seriously injured in a suspected drunk driving crash Saturday morning on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

According to an IMPD police report, witnesses said Ryan Timmons, 26, was speeding northbound on Southeastern Avenue around 8:50 a.m., when he hit another car at Wildwood Farms Boulevard. Timmons lost control and crossed over into head-on traffic, hitting a second car driven by Marcus Dunlap, 18.

Timmons’ car flipped onto its top and IMPD officers said Timmons was trapped inside the car when they arrived at the scene. Firefighters had to cut both Timmons and Dunlap out of their cars, according to the police report.

Both Timmons and Dunlap were taken to a local hospital.

IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey said Timmons later died at Methodist Hospital on Saturday. Police said Dunlap suffered serious injuries, but was in stable condition as of Saturday evening.

EMS crews smelled alcohol on Timmons, according to the police report.

Speeding contributed to the cause of the crash, according to police.

Police said the FACT team was called to the scene and the crash remains under investigation.
