Gay marriage fight unlikely to disappear soon

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The battle over gay marriage keeps popping up in Indiana.

The latest battle is set to take place at the Republican Party convention in Fort Wayne next month, after members of the party’s platform committee suggested addressing the issue in their official platform.

The General Assembly spent the start of the year battling over whether the state’s ban on gay marriage should be placed in the constitution. They ultimately delayed action on the issue. The issue resurfaced in the primaries a few months later.

Megan Robertson says Indiana’s Republican leaders could easily step in and settle the issue once and for all if they wanted to. Robertson is a Republican delegate who led the campaign against the marriage ban earlier this year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
