Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash with bicyclist

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition Monday evening after a crash with a bicyclist on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

Emergency personnel were called to the 7600 block of East Edgewood Avenue around 7 p.m. Police at the scene say a bicyclist was out for a bike ride and was crossing Edgewood when the crash happened.

Officials say the bicyclist didn’t see the motorcycle coming. The motorcyclist clipped the back of the bicyclist’s tire, causing the motorcycle to crash.

Emergency personnel say the motorcyclist was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

The bicyclist, James Valmore, was not injured.

“Time went so fast there wasn’t time to be afraid,” Valmore said. “Just time I knew I needed to help that guy, because he was not in good shape.”

Valmore says he and others performed CPR on the motorcyclist. He says the man was breathing on his own when the ambulance arrived.
