LEITERS FORD, Ind. (AP) — A man has died after being struck in the head while leaving a rural northern Indiana tavern.

Indiana State Police say 38-year-old Tony Coleman of Rochester was pronounced dead at a hospital after officers found him unconscious on the floor of the Leiters Ford Tavern early Sunday.

Police said Monday that Coleman had been drinking at the tavern about 40 miles south of South Bend and was making his way toward an exit when 33-year-old Zachary Clark of Peru punched him in the head with a closed fist for an undetermined reason.

Police say the attack appeared unprovoked. Both men were believed to be intoxicated.

Clark is being held in the Fulton County Jail on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery. It’s not clear whether he has an attorney. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
