INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis’ new pro hockey team has taken a big step.
The East Coast Hockey League expansion Fuel has hired their first head coach, agreeing to a multi-year deal with Scott Hillman over the holiday weekend.
Hillman led the Missouri Mavericks to a Central Hockey League regular season championship last season.
“We are super excited at this opportunity,” Hillman told 24-Hour News 8. “So far what we’re seeing in Indianapolis is unbelievable and a lot of people are talking hockey already. That’s exciting. Obviously, there’s a great long history of hockey here and people are excited to have pro hockey back.”
The Fuel opens play at the refurbished State Fairgrounds Coliseum in October. They’ll be an affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks.
