LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette woman was arrested at a local hotel after police say she knowingly directed a person to a place of prostitution.

Lafayette police arrested Malika Nichole Granados, 19, Tuesday at the Red Roof Inn on State Road 26, also known as South Street. Lt. Chris Weaver said Granados was arrested for prostitution and promoting prostitution.

Indiana code 35-45-4-4 defines the charge of promoting prostitution as an offense committed by a person who knowingly does at least one of the following:

  1. knowingly or intentionally entices or compels another person to become a prostitute
  2. knowingly or intentionally procures, or offers or agrees to procure, a person for another person for the purpose of prostitution
  3. having control over the use of a place, knowingly or intentionally permits another person to use the place for prostitution
  4. receives money or other property from a prostitute, without lawful consideration, knowing it was earned in whole or in part from prostitution
  5. knowingly or intentionally conducts or directs another person to a place for the purpose of prostitution

Weaver said Granados allegedly directed another person to a place for the purpose of prostitution. Weaver said there is no indication Granados is involved in a prostitution ring.

According to Tippecanoe County records, Granados has an open case on a charge of prostitution stemming from a November 2013 arrest.
