INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Greenwood man was killed in a crash on Interstate 465 Wednesday evening when his vehicle hit a bridge support.
Indiana State Police troopers were dispatched around 5 p.m. to the single-vehicle crash on I-465 northbound at the ramp to Interstate 74 eastbound.
Preliminary information from police is that 46-year-old Paul Summers was northbound on I-465 approaching the ramp to I-74 eastbound. Witnesses and evidence indicate Summers failed to negotiate the curve and drove off I-465, across a grass median and hit a bridge support head on.
Police say no brakes or evasive maneuvers were made by Summers. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Summers was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say they don’t know why Summers failed to negotiate the curve, apply brakes, or take evasive measures before the crash.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
