COLUMBUS, Ind. (The Republic) — A Columbus woman was arrested this week after police say her 2-year-old daughter was found wandering around naked outside.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 500 block of Della Road after a neighbor found the little girl wandering. Detectives arrived and also found a 1-year-old in a crib inside the home where there was no air conditioning and the windows were closed.

Detectives say temperatures in the home were in the mid to high 80s, 24-Hour News 8’s news partners at The Republic report.

Emergency personnel arrived to check out the children. They were turned over to Child Protective Services.

Police arrested 34-year-old Valena Michelle Martinez-Gonzalez. She has been preliminarily charged with two Class D felony charges of neglect of a dependent, Class D felony possession of meth, Class D felony possession of a controlled substance, Class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana and Class B misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
