SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH)  – The 30-year-old man who drowned in White Rock Park in St. Paul Thursday afternoon has been identified.

DNR officials said Ryan L. Hester, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a friend jumped from a 30-foot platform into about 20 feet of water around 3:20 p.m.

Police said the two men jumped at the same time, but only one person is supposed to jump at a time from that platform.

Hester never came up after the jump, according to his friend. His body was recovered by Indiana State Police and DNR divers shortly after 5 p.m.

Witnesses said Hester landed awkwardly on a rope, which may be a factor in his death.

The incident is still under investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday, DNR officials said.

According to the park’s website, there are no lifeguards on duty. The website also states, “Not responsible for accidents, injury, or stolen property.”

White Rock Park is located at 7080 S 750 E in St. Paul.
