VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police said a woman had to be airlifted to the hospital after a 91-year-old man ran over her leg with a riding mower during a fight on Friday afternoon.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, the 59-year-old victim and the man are family members who have been involved in a longtime dispute over some property.
Witnesses told police the woman drove her Jeep through the man’s yard in the 4600 block of South State Road 63. The man then confronted her in the driveway while on the riding mower.
Police said the verbal fight escalated when the woman got out of her Jeep with a machete.
As the man turned the riding mower, the mower deck ran over the woman’s lower leg. Police said her foot was severely injured.
Neighbors called 911 and administered first aid until emergency responders arrived at the scene, according to the sheriff’s department.
The victim was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
Officers interviewed witnesses and the man involved following the incident.
Once detectives complete the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
