FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Police say a little girl was caught in some crossfire on Euclid Avenue on Sunday morning.

According to the police reports, it happened just after 4 a.m. The girl was asleep in the top bunk at her home in the 3400 block of Euclid Avenue. One of the bullets entered her knee and traveled up her thigh. The other shattered her foot.

“I was bleeding all over,” she said.

Investigators found several shell casings outside the home along with a car that had bullet holes in it. The girl’s mother said their home was hit 16 times. According to the police report, it appeared that there had been a gun battle, with one side firing from a porch at a home in the same block and another firing from the street.

A neighbor’s home was also riddled by bullets. She said she was entertaining company when she heard the shots.

“I fell down to the ground,” Curwanna Hughes, who’s home and car were shot in the crossfire, said. “I heard footsteps on my porch like the intruder was trying to come in for safety. I closed my door, and I ran out my back.”

The little girl’s mother said her family has only lived in that house for around six weeks, and this is the second incident that’s happened. The child is expected to recover but can’t put weight on her leg for the next eight weeks. The family is glad that the outcome wasn’t much worse. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
