LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) – Lafayette Police say a 7-year-old was attacked by a pit bull Monday afternoon.

The dog then tried to attack two officers when they arrived in the 1500 block of South 18th Street to assist the girl. Police had to use a stun gun on the dog and confine it until Animal Control arrived.

The 7-year-old girl received multiple bite wounds from the dog. She was taken to St. Elizabeth’s East Hospital and was expected to be released later Monday evening.

The dog’s owner had recently moved from the home. The former roommate and current resident were caring for the dog until the owner could take the dog.

The pit bull was taken to a local animal shelter for a 10-day quarantine order.
