Police investigate body found near downtown

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police say a death investigation is underway after a body was found near downtown Indianapolis Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirms the body was found in the 2000 block of Columbia Avenue around 1:15 p.m.

IMPD homicide detectives were called to the scene. They say the body was severely decomposed. At this time police cannot determine the age, sex or race.

The body was found by a worker at a nearby plant, hidden in a shrub area. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
