GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – After seven years of trying to get a new aquatics center in Greenwood, officials broke ground on the project.

The aquatics center’s home will be in Freedom Park, near Stop 18 Road and Averitt Road.

Officials say they have a plan already in place.

“We will have it open on Memorial Day of 2015.”

Residents will now have a place to enjoy some fun in the sun for the first time in three years.

“We haven’t had a city pool for three years now. It’s been really hard on our residents because they have to go to Franklin or Plainfield or to Prairie Park so it will be great for our residents to have this again.”

Some of the features expected at the aquatics center include a lazy river, dive pool and four different water slides. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
