INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The coroner has released the identity of the person who was found in a pond on the city’s north side Thursday afternoon.

Officials said Ivan Vargas, 14, died from asphyxiation due to drowning. His death was ruled an accident.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Chris Wilburn said the incident does not appear suspicious and no foul play is suspected.

Crews found Vargas’s body in the 700 block of Lake Nora Court North, which is near East 91st Street and North College Avenue, around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

A resident of the Lakeside Pointe at Nora apartment complex said he saw the body on his way to the pool. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
