BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — A former high school football player is facing burglary charges.
Police say 25-year-old Jerimy Finch and 24-year-old Javon Brown were arrested early Tuesday after investigators say they broke into Payless Liquors on South Emerson Avenue.
According to court documents, a man was waiting to take the bus to work just before 5 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a car park suspiciously. He heard a loud noise and saw two men leaving with a duffle bag.
He called police, who were able to apprehend the suspects about a mile and a half away.
Beech Grove police say the two threw a rock through the door at the liquor store, taking more than $1,800 worth of alcohol.
According to court documents, Jerimy Finch admitted to Beech Grove police they’d broken into the liquor store to steal the liquor so they could sell it to make money.
Finch also told police he had played football for Warren Central High School a few years ago. Finch was the No. 1 rated safety in the nation by Rivals.com at the time. He went on to play college football for a number of years.
Investigators say they’re now working to connect this burglary with at least four other similar burglaries on the southeast side of Indianapolis.
