INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Challenges in medical care are putting more pressure on IU Health.
Last September, the hospital system cut 800 jobs. Now, an internal memo describes the difficulty of operating two downtown hospitals “with excess capacity within close proximity to each other,” referring to University Hospital and Methodist Hospital.
The memo goes on to say that will lead to “some consolidation and re-purposing” of existing facilities.
24-Hour News 8’s I-Team 8 asked IU Health what this memo means. A hospital spokesperson released the following statement Thursday:
“IU Health is working to design a way to provide healthcare in the most efficient and effective manner to the Indianapolis community. We have no plans to close any of our downtown hospitals.”
