Man dies after being hit by car in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man walking down East Pontiac Street Thursday night was struck by a passing car, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The collision happened on Pontiac Street between Fruehauf Drive and Adams Street.

City police spokesperson Officer Chris Felton said the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the car told police he did not see the man as he was driving west, away from a nearby traffic circle.

Felton said the area where the collision occurred was dark. He did not have information on the type of clothing the victim was wearing.

Investigators said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, but tests on the victim had not been completed.

Police did not provide information on where the victim was walking in the street. The 2800 block of East Pontiac has a sidewalk on one side.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

The crash is under investigation.
