INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – More than 1,500 women hit the streets of downtown Indianapolis for the state’s largest women’s only half marathon on Saturday.
The Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon kicked off from Monument Circle and ended at Meridian and Vermont Streets. There was also a 5K run and walk.
Women from all over the country were in Indy to take part in the race.
“Today’s race really is about celebrating women, accomplishing goals and achieving things that maybe people thought they could never do. We’ve got fast runners, walkers, we’ve got all types of runners out here,” Lindsay Hein, who ran the Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon, said.
The race supported the Julian Center which works toward breaking the cycle of domestic abuse.
There was a recognition ceremony after the race for the women who earned top spots.
WISH-TV was a sponsor.
