Police said Moran, Sarah Mae Mclevish, 16, Michael Chadbourne, 16, Trent Crabb, 17, and Mark Nally, 18, all of Franklin, were swimming in the river when Mclevish went over the dam.

The four teens then went to help the girl. Nally and Crabb are doing well, but McLavish and Chadbourne are in the hospital in critical condition.

Rescue workers combed the river all day Friday and Saturday, but say high water levels have made it difficult to get close to the dam.

The teams switched to recovery mode Friday afternoon, meaning they didn’t believe Moran was alive.

All of the teens involved in this incident went to Franklin Community High School. Students showed their support by posting photos and words of encouragement to social media during the search efforts.

Franklin Community Schools released the following statement on Sunday:

Franklin Community Schools would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jason Moran. The Franklin Community High School cafe and main lobby areas will be open this evening at 7:00. Guidance counselors will be available to those who need support.
