LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) – A fire at Kroger in Lebanon forced shoppers to evacuate on Tuesday evening.

The fire department was called to the Kroger in the 2400 block of North Lebanon Street for smoke inside the building.

The fire started around 7:41 p.m., in the produce area. Luckily it was confined to that space. However, the store was filled with smoke.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

None of the 20 to 30 people in the store were hurt.

The store will be closed for 24 to 48 hours while fans air out the smoke.

Damage will not be released until the Health Department and Kroger representatives complete their checks of the store.

The fire remains under investigation as of Tuesday evening. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
