Gun store owner speaks out after overnight break-in

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The owner of Don’s Guns is speaking out after someone broke into his store overnight.

The store is located near 38th and Lafayette Road. Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say they were called there around 2 a.m. for a business alarm.

When officers arrived they secured the business and surrounding area. Police spotted a suspect looking out of a duct vent on the roof. The Indianapolis Fire Department was then called to assist with a ladder.

According to IMPD, as officers prepared to go on the roof the suspect, 19-year-old Brennon Cook of Indianapolis, jumped off of the roof and started running. Officers chased Cook to the 4000 block of West 38th Street. With the help of a Clermont K-9 officer, Cook was arrested.

“The minute that you touch the roof, the alarms are going off, police are on their way and they’re waiting for you when you come back out and you can’t get through the front of it,” owner Don Davis said. “You see barricades up and we’ve been doing this a long time — 40 years — so we know what we’re doing.”

Cook was arrested on a preliminary charge of burglary, a Class C felony, and taken to the Arrestee Processing Center. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make a final charging decision.
