New group seeks marriage equality

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There’s a new organization in Indiana devoted to the legalization of gay marriage.

Rob MacPherson is one of the people behind the group called Hoosiers Unite for Marriage. He was married to Steven Stolen in California in 2008.

They are already involved in an ACLU lawsuit that seeks to have gay marriages from other states recognized in Indiana. Now they’re also seeking to achieve marriage equality here.

“Loving couples and wonderful loving families,” he said, “just want the rights, responsibilities, privileges and expectations that anybody else who wants to get married have.”

“We’re going to have community meetings around the state,” says coordinator Kyle Megrath, “talking to folks about where we are in terms of progress towards the freedom to marry.”

The group also plans to petition Attorney General Greg Zoeller asking him to stop using taxpayer money to defend the state’s marriage law.
