Funeral arrangements set for Franklin teen

FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — A teenager who died Monday after saving a friend in Big Blue River will be laid to rest Saturday after a memorial service at his school Friday.

Friday, Jason Moran, Michael Chadbourne, Trent Crabb, Mark Nally and Sarah McLevish were swimming in the Big Blue River when McLevish somehow went over the dam. All four boys tried to save McLevish.

Crabb and Nally made it out safely, and were able to help McLevish and Chadbourne out of the water. McLevish and Chadbourne were taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Moran’s body was found in the river on Sunday. Officials say Chadbourne died Wednesday morning. His organs were donated.

A memorial service for Chadbourne is planned for 7 p.m. Friday in Franklin Community High School’s gym. Visitation will precede the memorial service, starting at 2 p.m. A burial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin.

An official fund has been set up on behalf of all five families. The account has been named FCHS Family Fund and will be held at Heartland Community Bank, a Horizon Bank Company. For anyone wishing to make a donation, checks can be made payable to FCHS Family Fund and dropped off at any Heartland Community or Horizon Bank location or mailed to Franklin Community High School at 2600 Cumberland Drive, Franklin, IN. 46131. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
