FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police said a Columbus woman died after a crash on I-65 in Johnson County Thursday night.
Police said the woman was speeding northbound on I-65 around 7 p.m. when her BMW ran up underneath a semi near mile marker 86.
On Friday, police identified the woman as 21-year-old Karianne Bjordal. She died at the scene.
There was no evidence of deceleration or skid marks at the scene, according to police.
ISP said a dog inside of the car survived the crash and was released to an acquaintance of the victim.
Aldo Perez, 51, of Loxahatchee, Florida was identified as the driver of the semi. He was not injured in the crash.
Police said according to witness statements, excessive speed and driver inattention were contributing factors in the crash.
Both northbound lanes of I-65 reopened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after being shut down for around two and a half hours.
