INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The 49th Annual Strawberry Festival will fill Monument Circle once again on Thursday.

The popular festivals takes place in front of Christ Church Cathedral on Monument Circle. More than 300 volunteers help make it possible.

Organizers estimate six tons of strawberries and 18,000 homemade shortcakes are served up each year.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or until supplies run out. Guests can enjoy the “works” with shortcake, strawberries, ice cream and whipped topping for $7. A la carte orders can also be made with any of the toppings for $2 each.

Organizers say more than 95 percent of the festival’s proceeds go directly to local, national and international not-for-profit outreach groups. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
