Man wanted for Terre Haute murder arrested in Florida

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fl. (WTHI) – On Friday, officials in Putnam County, Florida arrested a man wanted for murder in Vigo County.

According to 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WTHI, deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to 117 Lake Galilee Drive in Hawthorne, Florida after receiving a tip.

Officials arrested Alex Hallett-Miles, who was wanted for the murder of Steven Vicars-Goings.

Vicars-Goings was found dead at the intersection of 5th and Swan Streets in Terre Haute back in May.

Police said an argument happened while he was trying to sell drugs to people in a pick up truck. The truck began to move forward with Vicars -Goings still attached to the truck.

According to police, Vicars-Goings was hit several times by one of the people inside the vehicle. He dropped to the side of the truck and was run over.

Police have already arrested three other suspects in this case.

Hallett-Miles initially provided a false name to Florida police but eventually disclosed his real identity and was arrested on the warrant.

Terre Haute police were notified of his arrest Friday. They did receive information he had fled to Florida early in the investigation.

He is currently being held in the Putnam County jail without bond awaiting extradition to Indiana. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
