WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Veterans paused to honor the red, white, and blue on Saturday to mark Flag Day at the Indiana Veterans Home.

Seated under a pavilion, many veterans looked on as flags from America’s past were presented. From the Revolutionary War to the current 50 star flag, the significance of 10 different flags flown on American soil were each explained.

Sergeant at Arms for American Legion Post 492 Doug Yeoman says each year he puts out hundreds of flags at his home.

“It’s important to the veterans, especially because as a veteran that’s what we fought for,” said Yeoman. ”We fought for the flag.”

The event concluded with the retiring of a flag, a seven gun salute, and the playing of Taps. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
