Home damaged after Monday afternoon fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a fire on the city’s east side.

The home in the 6100 block of East 9th Street had heavy smoke showing shortly after 3 p.m., Monday. When firefighters arrived they were able to put out the fire within 20 minutes.

The owners lived in the home for more than 30 years.

The husband was in the detached garage and the wife was at work when the fire started in the basement. He said he was not sure how the fire started.

The fire had an estimated $100,000 in damages. IFD will investigate the cause.
