Police release name of suspect arrested in Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Columbus Police Department have a person in custody for a shooting that happened around 9:05 p.m. Monday. Investigators say they are still looking for the gun used in the case, though.

18-year-old Jimmie Dewayne Hair Jr. was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted murder for shooting a victim in the neck.

Police were called to the 1200 block of 8th Street for a report of a person shot. When police arrived they found a 20-year-old man was shot.

The victim was taken to a local hospital before he was flown to an Indianapolis hospital. His condition was not immediately clear.

Police do not believe this was a random act. They say the two men knew each other. However, police did not immediately release a motive.

Residents were told to be on the lookout for a small caliber gun, and to call police immediately if they find it.
