BRAZIL, Ind. (AP) — Fire officials say a lengthy investigation might be needed to determine what caused a weekend blaze that destroyed three businesses in a western Indiana city.
Firefighters needed several hours to put out the fire that started Saturday evening at the Highway 40 Furniture Mart in the Clay County city of Brazil. A large plume of black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles as flames spread to a roofing businesses and hair salon that were connected to the furniture store.
No injuries were reported.
Van Buren Township Fire Department Chief Tod Haring tells The Brazil Times the blaze’s cause was uncertain and that the state fire marshal’s office had been asked to investigate.
Officials say furniture, roofing equipment and vehicles inside the buildings fueled the fire.
