Indianapolis loves yoga. To celebrate our love for this ancient practice and this year’s summer solstice, the Circle City is hosting the single largest yoga event in the city. On Saturday, June 21 at noon, Monument Circle will come alive with yogis of all different levels. The entire Circle will become one big yoga mat as instructors from all over the city lead a flowing yoga class. There will be various activities beginning at 11am and yoga begins at Noon.
This 2nd annual event encourages new and advanced yogis alike to participate. Instructors will be scattered around the Circle to help with alignment and basic yoga postures. They will also be available to answer questions and keep participants motivated to stretch the hour away. Cathy Morris on her electric violin will underscore the class with Dr. Sure Morter leading the savasana.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early, stretch, warm up and find a comfortable spot on the circle for their yoga mat. Participants should bring their own mat and a water bottle. We encourage everyone to ride share, take the bus, or ride a bike as bike parking will be available on-site through IndyCog.
Arrive at 11am for pre-event activities: Cultural Cannibals will be performing along with acro yoga and hooping demos. New this year is Family Yoga. Parents are invited to bring their kids (age 6 and older) and teachers will be positioned in a specific area for families. Parents must be present!
This is a free event (or by-donation) and the perfect way to spend an afternoon, rain or shine. Proceeds will benefit the local non-profits Mighty Lotus (www.MightyLotus.org) and Fight for Life (www.FightForLifeFoundation.org). The event is organized by the Athenaeum Foundation.
