Guns, vintage car taken from chief deputy’s home found

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH)  – A Johnson County Deputy Police Chief will get his stolen car back. That’s the latest word from officers who spent Tuesday trying to find the award-winning classic.

Around 11:30 p,m. Deputy Chief Randy Werden confirmed officers recovered the 1967 Ford Fairlane in a garage in Mooresville.

Werden says the car has a few scratches, but no major damage. Investigators say two men broke into the home of Deputy Chief Randy Werden in Greenwood around noon Tuesday.

An alert neighbor called 911 when he saw a man he did not know drive off in the Fairlane.

Greenwood Police say they caught the first man suspected in the burglary about 30 minutes after the initial call.  They arrested the second man Tuesday night in Indianapolis after he told police where to find the car.

Guns belonging to the deputy police chief  that also believed taken have been recovered and returned. .

Police arrested  28-year-old Brian Lakes and 25-year-old Joseph Kern in connection with the case.
