INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Tight end Dallas Clark entered retirement Wednesday with the Indianapolis Colts as his last team.

Clark, who was emotional throughout the news conference, thanked everyone from the mail man to his grandmother.

“I’m a Colt, and I’m very lucky to say that,” Clark said before Colts owner Jim Irsay handed him his jersey.

Clark shared a number of memories about Colts personnel, including his teammates.

“My wife told me to keep it lighthearted,” Clark said. “I just don’t know how to do that.”

Despite his efforts, Clark cried through much of the press conference — exuding thankfulness for the support of his career.

“I think Reggie (Wayne) knows it, but he’s the guy that I admired so much as a player,” Clark said. “He’s unique. He’s special.”

Clark named few people, worried he’d forget someone. But he did mention Wayne and former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, along with some coaches and Irsay.

“Thank you for trusting me and just being the man that you are,” Clark said to Irsay. “You’re the definition of Colts and what the horseshoe means.”

Irsay remarked that although Clark was a great player, his value as a person was even greater. He called Clark and other teammates during that era a blessing.

“It’s really a great moment when you have a chance to have someone come back to town and put his name on the line,” Irsay said. “There’s no signing bonus this time, but there’s a lot more meaning behind it than numbers.”
