VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – An arrest has been made in Vincennes in connection to the C&G Quality Dry Cleaning Services fire, as well as multiple other fires in Knox County.
Indiana State Fire Marshal and Vincennes City Fire Department investigators arrested James Beamon, 22, after he admitted to starting multiple fires and attempting to start another.
Documents state Beamon admitted to starting the late night fire on May 21 that destroyed &G Quality Dry Cleaning Services in Vincennes.
Fire officials stated active chemicals used in the dry cleaning process burned quickly, making the fire tough to extinguish.
“The fire advanced so quickly, it’s a dry cleaning business so all that got started, I mean we couldn’t put enough water on it fast enough,” said Vincennes Fire Chief, Gordon Becher.
Documents state Beamon admitted to starting a fire in December of 2011 at Gimbel Bond, a garage fire on Washington Street in June of 2013 and one at Pine Box on Washington Avenue last March. He also admitted he tried to start a fire at The Attic this past May.
Beamon faces four counts of arson, one count of attempted arson and one count of probation violation.
He is being held at the Knox County Jail as of Thursday evening.
