Lightning sparks south side house fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –  There was a lot of lightning associated with the storms that rumbled through central Indiana early Thursday.

Lightning appears to have sparked a fire at a house on the city’s south side.

Fire crews were called to the 1700 block of Delaney Drive in a neighborhood near State Road 37 and Southport Road.

The family said they heard a boom, smelled smoke, and called the fire department.

The fire was contained to a bathroom.  Firefighters say it appears the blaze was the result of a lightning strike to the house.

Firefighters had the fire out in about 10 minutes.  Damage to the home is estimated at $15,000. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
